TB, not for me

Tuberculosis. If you are not a medical person, you've heard this term tossed around, but may not really know a lot about it. It is like something you read about in a sci-fi book. An airborne disease. It especially likes people who are weak, but isn't really that picky. This infection mutates when medications are not used properly. To the point where sometimes TB is untreatable. Sounds exotic and distant, right?
Every week, there are certain faces that stand out more than others. This week, it was a severely malnourished little girl. Who also happens to have seizures, a history of a brain injury, & is severely developmentally delayed. We sent her for a TB test earlier this week, and she came back for a follow-up with medication. TB medication.

We are so thankful that TB treatment, along with HIV treatment, is free in several hospitals in the city. So now we patiently wait to see how she reacts to her medications. So today, I think of some of my favorite faces who have faced TB... and won!
